Santa Fe Opera debut in ‘La finta giardiniera’

Joel Prieto makes his house debut at Santa Fe Opera this summer, as Count Belfiore in Mozart’s comic opera La finta giardiniera. Belfiore has become a signature role for Mr. Prieto, whose performances at the Staatsoper Berlin and Glyndebourne were met with critical acclaim:

He is joined by an impressive cast in Santa Fe, including Susanna Phillips as Arminda, Heidi Stober as Sandrina, and William Burden as Podesta, with Music Director Harry Bicket leading the Santa Fe Opera Orchestra and Chorus in a new production directed by Tim Albery. Performances take place July 25 & 29 and August 7, 13 & 21.

Così fan tutte at the Liceu

Known for his ‘appealing‘ and ‘supreme‘ portrayals of Ferrando at companies across the globe, Joel Prieto will sing the role in Mozart’s Così fan tutte this month, at Barcelona’s spectacular Gran Teatre del Liceu. He is joined by an engaging cast Juliane Banse as Fiordiligi, Maite Beaumont as Dorabella, Joan Martín-Royo as Guglielmo, Sabina Puértolas as Despina, and Pietro Spagnoli as Don Alfonso, with Josep Pans leading the Symphony Orchestra and Chorus of the Liceu. Performances take place May 20, 22, 24, 26, 28 & 30; please note that ticket inventory is becoming extremely limited for these dates.

Doña Francisquita in Toulouse

Joel Prieto sings the role of Fernando Soler in Vives’ ever-popular zarzuela Doña Francisquita, December 21, 23, 26, 28 & 31 at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse. This production, directed by Emilio Sagi, features Elisandra Melián in the title role, Jesús Álvarez as Cardona, and Pilar Vázquez as Doña Francisca, with Josep Caballé Domenech leading the Choeur du Capitole and Orchestre national du Capitole.

Mozart performances this fall

Joel Prieto sings the role of Tamino in Mozart’s much loved Die Zauberflöte at the Teatro Municipal de Santiago in October and November. In review of his 2008 performance in Berlin, Opera Today stated: “Young Joel Prieto seems destined for a fine career if his well-voiced Tamino is any indication.”

An acclaimed cast joins Joel in these performances, with Annet Fritsch singing Pamina, Jennifer O’Laughlin as the Queen of the Night, In-Sung Sim as Sarastro, and Adam Cioffari as Papageno. Tickets and availability information are available here.

Following his time in Santiago, Mr. Prieto heads to Houston, and will be featured as the tenor soloist in the Mozart Requiem with the Houston Symphony Orchestra. The concerts take place November 20, 22 & 23, and will be led by Music Director Andrés Orozco-Estrada.
